Heideroosjes support Less Than Jake

posted on: 29/04/2004

Heideroosjes got the -very last minute- offer to support US ska-punkers LESS THAN JAKE during their upcoming European tour. We will support all their shows except for the one in Dusseldorf (D) at 20/05. This is because we have a festival in Holland that day and we can't combine the two. Please check out the concertpage for countries and venues. See you in the pit!

Marco tells about touring, the accident etc

posted on: 19/04/2004

How are you all doing? I must say it’s a strange time for us. Different sorts of emotions cross our path these days. A new album, a serious accident, the first US-tour, a new European tour, and last but not least a Dutch Grammy Award. I hardly find time to deal with all this stuff. But all over, I’m positive, especially since the recovery of our roady Eelco is getting better and better. After hearing the diagnose "paralised from neck till feet with less than 1% change for recovery" we all had a rough time. Eelco and Heideroosjes work together for 10 years now and he and his wife are part of the HR-family. We have been through a lot together and if you get a diagnose like the above, it turns your world upside down. But somehow Eelco got strength to take that 1% and fight his way back. At this point he’s even able to stand up again. He still has no feeling in his legs but he can move. Doctors say it’s a miracle. We are just happy. And thankful for so much luck and this second chance for Eelco. Hopefully he’ll be able to join us on the road someday in the future.

This terrible accident happened just after the very first gig of our +/- 50 dates counting tour. Eelco insisted on continouing the tour so that’s what we did. It felt very strange and uncomfortable in the beginning but after some shows we’d found a way to deal with the fact he wasn’t around on stage. The Dutch and Belgian tour was a success and the record is doing well (we hit the charts in Holland and in Belgium). Our first trip to the US was a great advanture. We did a rockin show at the SXSW Festival in Austin and got a very very positive review in the Austin Chronicle (check presspage). Next year we plan to go back for a longer US tour! Our first part of the European Tour (mainly Germany, Austria, Italy) was good as well. Places we’d played before were better visited, which indicates for me that people liked us the previous time and brought their friends this time. But to be honest; the places we’d never played before were sometimes hard because we didn’t get as much people in as we hoped or expected. But over all, the tour was cool! We made a lot of new friends! The rest of this year we keep on touring all over Europe so please check our concertpage for updates. To all the folks who came out to see our show I want to say, thank you so much! Without you, we are nothing! Cliché but true…

HR win Edison Award

posted on: 24/03/2004

Heideroosjes won the prestigious Dutch Edison Award for 'Best Single Of The Year'. Which is funny in a way because our latest single 'damclub hooligan' got hardly any airplay on Dutch radio and TV. But because so many people voted for us, they were 'forced' to give us the award. Nevertheless we are very honoured with such a huge support from our Dutch fanbase. Thanks guys!

Heideroosjes rock SXSW in Texas

posted on: 21/03/2004

Heideroosjes did a very fantastic show at the big South By Southwest Festival in Austin Texas! The very prestigiues and important The Austin Chronicles writes about the Heideroosjes concert: " Veterans Heideroosjes pretty well leveled the place when they took over. Rather than relentless express-train thrash, they write in some peaks and valleys, with short, pugnacious lead singer Marco bellowing about "scapegoat revolution" and other vaguely political topics. True to their roots, there's a song dedicated to the Ramones and a number that translates roughly as "Drop Dead", which could pass for a Minor Threat song. By the end of their set the singer was exhorting the 6th Street crowd from a window, the bassplayer was up on top of the PA cabinets, and an anonymous punk rocker was cavorting around onstage. They burn more calories and write better songs than the standard-issue American punk band, and blew the first two bands right out the front door. Now THERE'S a lesson in how to rock!". Not bad at all we thought!!

Good news is what we need in hard times like this. Like the news Heideroosjes will play at Belgium's biggest outdoor festival, Rock Werchter. This event takes place 2, 3, and 4 July in Werchter (B). Exact showtime will be announced later.

EELCO SAYS "Don't quit, rock on!"

posted on: 14/02/2004

EELCO SAYS "Don't quit, rock on!"
"You guys have to go on touring" was the first thing our friend Eelco said when we first visited him in the hospital in Belgium. "You have to go on and spread your message" he told us. It was a pleasant surprise to see him in such a positive mood. After last sunday's diagnose we'd lost all hope. "Paralised from neck to feet with no or maybe 1% chance for recovery" the doctors said. It was a shock. But now, not even one week later, Eelco can move his arms, one hand and one leg! Doctors call it "amazing" and "a miracle". For us it's just fantastic and hopeful news. But besides these positive messages Eelco has a long long way to go. It's not clear yet if he will ever return to the band. But he stays a member of the HR-family! He's in our group for 10 years now and we will stick with him, his wife and little kid now and in the future. Keep on sending him positive mails. He is thankful, surprised and very touched by all the e-mails he gets. So please drop him a note at eelco@heideroosjes.com

Heideroosjes will continue the Dutch and Belgium tour. We start again Friday 20th February in GRONINGEN (NL). It will be a strange concert for us. We will miss Eelco and for our crew it's emotional to get back on the road again after such a heavy accident. But somehow this tragidy made us stronger as a group. And we will do our best to give you a rockin show!
This week we also tested our backline and our flightcases and packingsystem (made by Eelco) did a good job. It's possible to fix the damage at the backline soon so we can continue with our own equipment soon. Our van is still total loss but we will hire another one.

The shows which have been cancelled will be played as soon as possible. The concerts in Brussels, Noord-Scharwoude and Zierikzee will take place as soon as we have discussed a new date. We hope to inform you about this wednesday 18/02 latest. Please don't e-mail us about when the cancelled shows will take place. Every info will be put on this website!

Thanks for your support and hope to see you all soon,
Marco, Fred, Frank, Fred and the entire HR-crew!

Crewmember Eelco got injured real bad during the accident of last sunday in Belgium. Diagnose is; two broken bones in his neck. Eelco is partly paralised and at this point it's not known if and how far recovery is possible. It's no need to say band and crew are very sad about all this. Wednesday (10/02) the band will visit crewmember Eelco in the hospital. After that visit the band will decide if they go on and when. The first upcoming shows in Zierikzee (NL) and Noord-Scharwoude (NL) have already been cancelled. Monday 16th February Heideroosjes will announce what their future plans are. If you have a message for Eelco please use this address eelco@heideroosjes.com . We will hand over all mails to him as soon as possible. So long and thanks.

The first reviews of the new album come in at this moment. We're proud to tell you they're all positive! Here's already a small selection of reviews. More stories will follow soon...!

"The year has just started and the best album of 2004 is a fact! These guys are unstopable!" (Rif Raf, Belgium)

"Humour and indignation are keywords but more than ever it's good songs they write" (Fret, Holland)

"This music has something irresistible!" (Rock Tribune, Holland)

"SINema is an album with its heart at the right place. Cherish this band" (UP Magazine, Holland)

"After 14 years, the magic is still there. It takes expertise to melt their different styles together as one, beautiful piece. And they did it!" (MindView, Belgium)

"Honest, sleazy, right in your face... for punkrock-lovers this album belongs to the 'should-have' of 2004!" (Hammer, Germany)

"Even though they sold a lot of albums and did tons of shows, the Heideroosjes still kept their credibility. They offer more than just 3-chord-punkrock... This album is musically very interesting and give pleasure from beginning till end. Very well done!" (Rock Hard, Germany).

to be continued....
